Over Christmas I went over to France to see my sister inlaw get married, after all the festivities we managed to get away touring around France, Switzerland, Italy and Germany. It is great playing the tourist for a while, whilst I didn't know all the great places to grab the best shots of the area it didn't matter, to me as everywhere I looked there was magnificent scenery. We stopped at Mont Blanc and spent a couple of days having a good look around. The days were short but the weather was beautiful, it was as if we were between..

One of the fabulous things about Sydney is being able to drive down to the beach in the morning and watch the coast come to life as the sun comes up. The rock hoppers come out to fish along the headlands, joggers pound the pavement and sand, surfers catch a few waves before work. The hum of the city in the very distance starts to be audible (don't like that part as much). The day starts and as all of this happens the dawn light cast a beautiful glow over the coast.

Port Willunga on the Fleurieu Peninsula is just another coastal suburb just south of Adelaide that has a rich history. As I sit in the studio looking out the window at the rain bucketing down here in Sydney I remember the summer days spent at this beach watching the locals go about their daily routine after work. Walking the dog, swimming in the cool calm waters, local kids playing along the rocks and amongst the old piers, just daily life. This was taken at close to 9pm, where were all of our long summer days this year?

After driving like a mad man for and hour and half from Kingscote on the north of the island we pulled up at Hanson Bay to the sun rising. The fires on the mainland left hint of smoke in the air and the sunrise was a fiery vibrant mass of colour reflecting off the water and clouds alike. A pretty awe inspiring morning to be on the water.

Photographing on remote islands is always challenging, but almost always rewarding. This particular afternoon I slipped off the RIB tender into 3 metres of water with my massive Pelican case in one hand and tripod in the other. I came up coughing and spluttering clinging to the Pelli case like a life ring. Swimming ashore and trudging up the beach I was soaked, it took me a while to get over the embarrassing debarking. Once I regained my composure I wandered along the shore and found this little scene as the sun was low on the horizon. The low cliff faces..

Whilst out on a research trip we dropped anchor in a bay as the sun was low on the horizon. Once all the chores were done I manage to get on shore and snap this glowing dusk scene. I love dragging shutter speeds out on seascapes as you are never really sure what you might get… the wait to get your films back is always suspenseful.

Many afternoons I have sat in the office and thought to myself that the weather is too poor to get the camera out, but when I do find myself out on a lack luster day it often amazes me how much there is to capture. This day at Smiths Beach in Yallingup was a particularly cloudy uneventful day which turned into a moody afternoon and as the sun dropped below the horizon the breeze picked up along the shore forming a choppy surge which crashed agains the rocks with surprising ferocity. The sun lit up the low lying cloud that oppressed the..

Whilst in the Kimberly I drove up to the Aboriginal community at One Arm Point and spent a couple of days up there watching the tides rip past the Buccaneer Archipelago of islands just offshore. One late morning I was watching a couple of kids fishing along the shoreline and green turtle popped up in front of me, it was flailing about in the shallows as the tide ripped out to sea until it dived and tucked in behind a rock. The colour of the water was vivid blue with aqua trimmings along the shore, a spectacular morning.

I was in Western Australia to see a few friends and met up with Michael Fletcher the cinematographer on his home turf in Dunsborough. He suggested I head down to Canal Rocks for the afternoon amongst other things. I was blown away with the whole area having been there area briefly in the past, I took a few days this time to explore the coast this time round. A photographers paradise no wonder the Fletcher brothers setup shop down there.

I often think that a morning sunrise is so much more unpredictable to photograph than a sunset, maybe it is the fact that you have more time to predict what is going to happen on a sunset and have time to create an image. On sunrises along the east coast it seems like I make simpler more honest images.

Taken one afternoon as a storm was receding along the Yorke Peninsula near Port Rickaby. This was one of those afternoon shoots that I walked away thinking I hadn't captured much but was pleasantly surprised when the film hit the light box.

I was rummaging through a few old transparency's and came across this image of a research trip I did with a few marine biologist friends Sean and Stebo. What a camp site! 10m away from the edge of Australia, nothing between me and Antartica. We spent the night staring at a sky so full of stars that it seemed like daylight, listen to hundreds of microbats darting about feeding and the crash of the waves pounding against the rocks 80m below.

In Hawaii I was hoping for some blue water and white sand. Instead we had good tropical weather, afternoon storms every day! So this is not your typical Hawaii shot but the light breaking through the clouds made for and impressive afternoon light show on the cliffs across the bay.

Last year we spent 3 days in howling winds tucked behind these little rocks a few km’s off the SA coastline. As the sun set a rain storm blew in treating us to a fantastic sunset and dusk.

Tassie seems to be one of those places that keeps drawing me back, no matter how many times I have been there, there is always more to see. King William Saddle can be seen just off the Lyell Hwy. A great pit stop along the way to Strahan on the west coast.

One of the many joys of landscape photography is the exploration. In South Australia long drives are just part of living in this part of Australia. It is not uncommon to drive 5-6 hours just to catch up with a mate for the evening. These long drives often give me the chance to do some exploring down old dirt roads.

I stumbled along this paddock that had just been sown a few weeks before so all the seedlings where glowing in the afternoon light. I asked a local..
